Our 19 Outrage II (1992) does not have a destroyer-style steering wheel. Instead, it has what I think may be called a "sport" wheel, a more modern design used on Whalers in the "post-classic" period (1990s).
I believe our boat was originally equipped with a destroyer wheel, and I would like to revert to one. There is nothing wrong with the current steering wheel -- it's just a personal preference.
I have seen 5- and 6-spoke destroyer-style wheels. I am not certain which style would be the oem for my model boat?
Also, are there any other specifications that I need to be aware of? For instance:
By the way, the steering wheel I currently have is #4 on the list of Schmitt wheels in the Defender link above, called the "Vision Elite" model. It will be for sale once I replace it, if anyone is interested.
I know back when I was restoring my classic 13 foot sport there was a guy on ebay that sold the correct destroyer type wheel with a center cap complete with the Boston Whaler standard or anniversary logos for around a $100. I am not sure of the brand of the wheel, but it was a sharp looking combination when mounted on the boat. While I am unsure if this is exactly period correct for your boat, many people notice the small details.
