Original seat has four (4) circular rubber pieces inbeded in the fore and aft sides of the legs for the backrest. I assume to prevent the legs from excessive rubbing on the seat. Has anyone dealt with this issue when renewing the backrest and is this original design?
Yes, the rubber stop inside the 3/8 inch slot is original design. I usually cut a fresh piece of rubber from a piece of tire and glue it in place using urethane glue. Without the stop, wood on wood rubbing together makes a violent-sounding friction noise. And yes, the rubbing can wear down the finish.
