Thanks In my opinion, yes it would hurt the strength of the rail. Passengers lean and pull pretty hard on those rails, and they need to be stiff/rigid enough to handle the loads. I am pretty sure that cutting the wraparound under that fitting where the shepard's crook attaches to it would significantly reduce the entire unit's rigidity.

Administrator Personal Page Personal Album Project Albums Posts: 7043 Comments: 6 Joined: 03/26/05	You could cut the rail as long as you used a hot dog when re-assembled. A hot dog is a short piece of pipe slightly smaller in diameter that goes inside the rail and bridges the cut.
