I am about to have the hull and interior redone in January, any suggestions to watch out for? Also I want to replace the rotary helm, will any unit work?
Hi Bahern: Welcome to Whaler Central. What is the condition of your 1968 Sakonnet now and what do you want to have redone? Can you post some pictures of your boat? The interior wood is best restored when completely removed from the hull; wood finishing material is very difficult to remove from gelcoat, once it has dried. Do you have hull damage to repair? Or do you just want the gelcoat to shine again? How old is your steering system? Original equipment? How does it connect to the motor?
I am currently working on two Blue Hull restoration projects: A 1967 Currituck and a 1970 Menemsha. I do all of the work myself.
