I am restoring a 1974 11'4" Sport. When I began the restoration several years ago, I kept all the parts and fittings.

Now I am completing this project and most the parts are accounted for but, guess what, I am unable to locate the steering components.

I need pulleys, spring, and chrome pulley blocks that are mounted on the starboard side of the steering console.

These are fantastic boats and I would like to keep it as original as the day it was born.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Norm

I recall the pulley's were not originally chrome.

There is an article showing the gear. Go to MAIN, Articles, Engine Rigging and Controls:

I would follow the link in Kamie's thread for parts:

Thanks for the leads. You are correct in that the pulleys were not chrome but the turning blocks on the starboard side of the console were chrome.

San Juan - i have been redoing my cable steering, too. I found Attwood pulleys on Ebay for $3.99 that should do the trick.

Doug Russell Marine orders@dougrussell.com

I haven't found helm replacements. Look on the internet - there were some on ebay but not like the ones on the BW helm starboard. I'm having mine repaired at a local shop - TIG or MIG - don't know. Repairman said that if it was aluminum he could do it but if Magnesium he can't Keep fingers crossed!

I am now looking for nylon-coated tiller cable - I don't know if it is 1/4 or 5/16". On my helm pulleys is stamped 5/16 but the cable that was on the boat when I bought it was 1/4 and vinyl-covered and all cracked to heck.

Good Luck with your project

The hardest pulley steering parts to find new are the side pulleys that protrude through the side of the console. What I did is buy 90degree coaming pulleys from Brown Tool & Machine Company (look them up on Google)..
They are manufacturers and suppliers for hardware for outboard race boats which all use pulley and rope steering. When you find their site scroll down to steering parts and then to 90 degree coaming pulleys. It will add a bit of class to your 13 footer. They also come in mill (aluminum ) finish. Look at the pic. of my avatar. You can see them on the side of the console. or check my [personal page.

Just so you know, Rich (Binkie) is the guru for wire and pully steering.

Binkie - I'm trying to find out what size wire rope is used. I have a 11' and the previous owner used vinyl and it was all cracked to heck. I know I should use nylon-coated. Master Carr had galvenized wire rope that was 3/16. I ordered it but I'm still curious about where I might've found stainless or perhaps the original was galvenized.

What a great site! Thanks all for sharing your knowledge! LTW
