Rebuilding console and Seat - use plastic at attachement ?
I am rebuilding the seat and console in a 1968 Sakonent. The original had wooden boards attached to the floor board of the boat and the console and seat sitting on the floor and screwed into these anchor boards. The console and seat sides sit on the desk just outside the attachment boards.
I as wondering as I put this all back together, about putting a 1/8 to 1/4 inch piece of plastic beneath the boards and sides of the seat/console. Have the plastic be just a little undersized. Thinking that that this might limit the water exposure of the bottom of the wood?
I used 3" x 3" x 1/4" thick fiberglass angle when I mounted my new custom console to the deck of my 1970 Nauset. It will most likely outlive both of us.
