I don't have my fire Extinguisher mounted anywhere in my 1995 15 foot Dauntless. I have it tucked in the corner of the center console, but it bounces around. I don't want to screw the mount to anything. I'd like to mount it under the seat. Will 5200 create a strong enough bond on the bottom of the plastic fire extinguisher mount to hold to the fiberglass under the seat? Any other options you've used?
You could test it off the boat using other materials first and find something that weighs similar to the fire extinguisher. Just remember, unless you get fast drying 5200 it takes 4 days to cure. At the end of the day, that might be asking a lot out of 5200. Marine tex is another option you could try.
I just got done doing this in my 13. I bought a kiddie FEx that came with a plastic mount. The 13 seems to have REALLY thin interior walls so screws don't hold anything with any heft to it. I then lightly roughed up the fiberglass and the back of the mount with 60 grit. Then I applied a thin coat of West System epoxy mixed with 706 filler and attached the mount where I wanted it. Over Memorial day weekend, we had three days of steady 20 knot easterly winds that whipped up the Atlantic pretty bad. Boat was slamming hard even at 5 knots. My fire extinguisher is still where I put it.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into the products you have recommended. Then again, I might buy a small dry box for under the seat and throw it in there!
Mount the F.E. bracket horizontally to the console floor. I have done that in my Outrage 19 & 21 which do not have an FE pocket. If your console does not have a separate plywood floor, use the 5200 fast set to glue a piece of wood to the inside of the console side, and mount the bracket to that.
The black plastic bracket which holds the FE needs to be screwed into something. Adhesives do not hold well to plastic, particularly the way the FE bracket is shaped.
