Hay anyone every ordered the replacement teak RPS backrest from speciality marine. Was thinking of giving up on restoring mine and ordering one. Are you happy with it?

I bought one and it was of nice quality. It does not have the rod holders or stainless handles on it. 3 years later it still looks nice. I'm considering the console hatch covers next.

Stennet has contacted my restoration manager and claimed he is sending the remainder of my order from him needed to complete my project with the Outrage 18. He has done this before, so I will believe it when I see it.
If he fails to get my paid in full wood components to me very soon, I will contact that guy in that Craigslist ad and see what I can work out with him. The parts I need are not available from Specialty.

I requested a unfinished RPS seat back. Fyi , You will have to assemble the rps seat back as it comes in a kit form. I have not assembled the entire rps ( only wood seat back ) , so it is possible that I may come across something not correct. I thought there service was fine.

I think that seatback from Specialty is an absolute bargain. I don't know how they do it! It looks like a very well made piece. Ten years ago, before all this stuff was readily available, in desperation I built one from scratch, from plans given to me by a friend (and which are available here I believe), and just the teak, cut and planed to thickness, was over $200.
I have an extra Whaler original one in storage, sanded and in perfect condition, complete with Whaler rod holders and handles, and there is no way I would sell it for $200. Actually, I would want more like $500 for it.
So as long as these are available at prices like this, anybody interested should go for it. I think the uncoated one would be preferable, even if you plan to varnish, since some finish work and drillling may be necessary on the top, including rounding off the top corners a little.

Keep your original one Larry. These replacement parts are just ok, but clearly not the real thing. The Z legs are a dead give away.

Finnegan, are you interested in selling your RPS seat? I have been looking for an original one for several months without any luck and $500 sounds like a fair price.

Regarding Specialty's teak seatback, since the unfinished one comes unassembled, I would recommend the varnished, assembled, one. I've got to say, I don't get why the pricing is the same.
My original Whaler seatback is not currently for sale separately, since it is part of of an entire RPS that I have, including the brown legs, Halls cushion, pivot bars, handles and rod holders. I separately sourced together all of these parts to install in my Outrage 19, thinking I would not like the original Pompanette pilot chairs that came in the boat. I was wrong about that - the chairs are fantastic and much nicer and more comfortable than a RPS.
I may sell the complete RPS later, but I will post it here with photos when I decide to do so. It is factory new condition, and will be more than the Specialty price of $750.

I had purchased the unfinished and made the mistake to apply 3 coats of sikkens to it before putting it together.if I were to do it again I would apply the sikkens to the inside ,u reachable areas first,then assemble it install and cut the plugs ,sand it and then finish it with whatever you'd like to use
