For someone like me who is petrified of screwing up a drain tube installation is there another option? I am in San Diego (Carlsbad).....any recommendations on who where might do the job and about how much I might pay for two drain tubes installed.

I have a 13ft 1991 Super Sport Limited.....as best I can tell my train tubes are intact (by running my fingers in and around the tube).....is the another way to inspect?

It's a fairly simple project.... although there are several reputable yards in your backyard..

KoehlerKraft is great (on shelter island) - http://www.koehlerkraft.com/

Driscoll (mission bay) or Shelter Island Boatyard..

Schock Boats (Whaler dealer and small yard) in Newport Beach - Make a weekend out of it w/ fun harbor cruise.

I can't imagibe it costing more than 2-3 hundred bucks plus parts even at California rates but I would definitely use the Whaler dealer. because I think they must do that regularly. It really isn't that hard and for fifty bucks in materials to do it yourself you could always take it to the appointment with the a Whaler dealer if you aren't successful. If you find you can / did do it you can just cancel the appointment at the yard and take your wife to a nice dinner to tell her you're going fishing.

I winter in Ft. Myers and summer in St. Joseph, Michigan. It’s now about 12 years since I’ve joined this group. I gave my 1972 whaler to my daughter and sold the 17’. Bought an O’Day 28 sailboat and sailed on Lake Michigan. Yesterday I bought a 2005 130 Sport.

I bought a trailer from Schock Boats when I lived out in San Diego. Its a great, family business. I wouldn't think twice about letting them work on my boat. If you haven't had your boat up to Newport Beach, you really NEED to take it up there. Lots of fun to cruise around their bay. I launched at the RV park.

--Separate topic, but while you are asking about boat work in SOCAL, I also really liked dealing with JP Motorsports in Chula Vista. Great Yamaha/Merc Parts Department with a well experienced parts salesman. He helped me out on a number of repairs I did myself.

Thank you all for great advice....I bought the boat from Schock Boats back in 1993.... Back then it was a year old from Jim Hatch.......looks like he's still there. It is a lovely area with or without a boat.....paradise on earth in every way.

For mechanical work I have been to Robbie at Boating Dynamics.......nice guy again generous with advice whether you use him or do it yourself.
