Hello,
I have a 1983 Outrage. The Rub rail is damaged, port side, aft corner. Is it posible to find the OEM replacement Rub Rail? If so, where? Are there any techniques used to replace or splice less than 2' of Rub Rail where it wraps around the transom? The black outer piece is good but the white part that mounts to the gunwhale is damaged. Thanks for any input.

I have a 1979 22ft. Revenge and our rub rails are identical. I had the same issue with a small portion of the "receiver track" being damaged. The receiver track is sold in pre-cut lengths and the color is "Moonstone". Pretty brittle from being in the weather. Is fabricated by and can be purchased from Barbour Plastics. I decided to do a complete replacement because splicing (if you could locate a small piece) would look like a splice. Once the entire rubber portion is off you can replace the navigation lights wire. In my opinion, the installation of the receiver track is the worst of the of the two jobs compared to the rubber portion.

If your rubber portion is damaged you can have my old one that is in good shape. It probably would work for the 18 ft. Outrage. Let me know the total length. The rubber is continuous (the receiver track has three miters) and some of the rubber is cut for the two corners by the transom.

Hello Garris,

Can you email me (email is in profile only)

Do you have any of the old Track and/or cut offs from the new track you would send me? I will pay you some fee for them.

I realize the splice will be visible but far better than what I have until I can muster the cost to replace the whole thing.

Thanks...Greg

I recycled the old plastic or you would be welcome to it free. Maybe if you keep this thread active, some else may have it available at some point. Give Barbour Plastic a call and price out the material. Give them the make and model for your boat and the sales people are very knowledgeable. I changed the color of my receiver plastic to black and now have a red rubber insert (not always available). We cross referenced the style of rub rail and the same rail style was available to me at a slightly shorter length made for a different boat manufacturer. Saved a few dollars.

ps. You left your email in your reply. No need to. If it is in your profile we search there. Emails in postings are a no no

Greg,

Can you take some dimensions of your existing one? It's possible I may have enough to do your whole boat.

Hello Don,

The boat is in storage at this time. Not easy to access. Not sure of actual dimensions. I think the rub rail was pretty much standard at that time for 18-22 foot Whalers. What year and size Whaler is your Rub Rail from. I bet the guy at the supplier could tell me if it would work. Thanks.

Barbour Plastics sent me a 50 foot continuous length of receiver and insert for my 22 foot 1979 Revenge. Left me with two attempts at the corner miter for the insert (tight material measurement). His boat is 4 foot shorter so, two runs of insert 21 ft long and 42 ft for the the rubber insert minimum.

I still have my old black rub rail insert available for shipping cost if needed

Are you writing to me? Is your old black piece in good shape? How much do you need to ship to Zip 48348? Thanks

Greg

P.S. Please address the person you are writing to.

GNolan, this is your thread so I am responding (writing) to you. If I was cross talking with another member I would head it accordingly.

Our hulls (I have the 1979 22 ft Revenge) use the same rub rail. My black insert is available to you but if you do not want it, any member is welcome to it free, plus shipping.

However, I will let you do the homework. My zip code is 95465 and I have no idea of the weight. If the rain ever stops I'll pick it up and deduct my weight (boy, do I hate looking at my weight) while on on a bathroom scale. No tears but a dink here and there. Not the original insert, replaced once before based on old screw holes found when working on the boat. No failures on the back of the insert that slides into the track. Could use some product to bring out the color. Some one thinking it could work on another 22' hull be wary. The corners by the transom have been shaved to accommodate the 8" corner return/miter. I would prefer shoving it in a box and use UPS (convenient). My new rail material came in a coil but, the boxes are long gone.

I also have a 50 foot piece of brand new black rub rail insert never installed same style. After I ordered the kit I splurged and got a length of the red insert because it became available. Same deal for shipping but $65 for the insert.

Greg,

If both the 18' and 22' use the same RR then it's not the right one.

It's narrower than the one used on the 22'.

Hello Don,

Your statement is not understood. Are you saying that the Rub Rail Garris has will not fit the Outrage 18?

My 22' 1979 Revenge is the Outrage hull with a cuddy cabin mounted inside the gunnels. The first year they changed from the Banana hull. I understand they kept the same hull design to late 80's. Others more knowledgeable with the specifics could chime in. Whaler has standard rub rails for that series of boat. 17' up to 25' for Outrages (some Revenges, other Revenges with the cabin mounting on the outside of the gunnels, the rub rail is different).
