Has anybody fished the Gulf around Grand Isle since Katrina? Especially shallow areas. I've been monitoring the LA DEQ and their testing seems to indicate ecological damage to the Gulf is not as bad as feared; in fact, EPA has agreed with them that no seafood warnings need to be issued other than eat nothing raw and exercise normal precautions. Contamination and damage ashore is another matter, so our real problems may well be where to launch and stay.

I have friends with camps at Leeville. They say that people are tearing up the fish, especially the Trout. The bridge to Grand Isle is still out. But, people are down there and fish are biting. I'm wondering what the coast will look like compared to the charts.

I wonder how the coast will compare to the charts, too. My last trip was to Chalmette a week before the storm. It's hard to believe the brand new camp we used (on pilings) is gone, as are the restaurants we used, our favorite tackle shop and our favorite guides' house. My brother in law has been back to help our guide salvage what he could, and he reported back that it's every bit as bad as we've heard. I guess Black Bay and other spots are now gone. We'll just have to relearn how to work the old areas. And new areas were probably created.

Grand Isle and Leeville are on the rebound. The fishing is excellent right now for trout and the offshore action is heating up.
