I haven't posted in a long time - looks like life is getting in the way. ;)

I just purchased and installed a new Bimini top for "Rob's Whaler" (new name). Here's what I bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/111388149708?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Assembly and installation was a breeze, I used the "hockey puck" method for the screws on the top of the gunnel.

Here's a funny for you all: My dear wife is learning to enjoy the boat riding. She still has a hint of fear in her eye when I'm up on a plane (mind you the Whaler only has a 1994 25hp Merc). Well anyway, we went out on the lake with the Bimini up, got up on a plane and encountered a series of medium wake from another boat; 1st one just rolled over, next one a little rougher, with the next one we caught "a bit of air" under the whaler bow. While I loved it, Dear Wife, freaked out. She screamed "SLOW DOWN, THIS TOP IS GONNA MAKE A AIR SAIL AND FLIP THE BOAT OVER BACKWARDS". Of course I slowed down and tried to contain my hysterical laughing.

But now here's a question, I would NEVER let her know if it were true, but is it possible for the Bimini to act as a Air Sail/Kite/Parachute and lift the boat up off the water. I'm thinking impossible but maybe someone has had an experience to share.

It was my Dad's, now it's Mine, one day I'll pass it down, 'til then it's Happy Whalering.

I think you would have to be going a lot faster than that 25 Mercury will push you.
I have a Whaler 13 with a Honda 50 and it hasn't happened to me. There are plenty of boats with 200+ hp and Bimini tops and I've never heard of that happening. You should be advised that while you are the Captain, your wife is the Admiral. Your best bet at this point is to approach her and assure her that you will never again do anything on the boat to make her uncomfortable. If you want your boating hobby to continue. If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

I winter in Ft. Myers and summer in St. Joseph, Michigan. It’s now about 12 years since I’ve joined this group. I gave my 1972 whaler to my daughter and sold the 17’. Bought an O’Day 28 sailboat and sailed on Lake Michigan. Yesterday I bought a 2005 130 Sport.
