I have a 1991 Montauk 17 with that seat and the bulkhead mount. Lately the seat back screws were getting loose so I took it off the boat, shot the screws with a dab of WD40and let them soak. When I attempted to tighten them. I found that all the screws and their associated nutzerts are frozen and the wood seat back is rotten to the point the nutzerts spin.

In addition, the previous owner had swapped out the seat swivel base with one that has become very rusty, When I first purchased the boat I serviced the swivel base and greased it up but it was a lost cause and now is hard to turn.

I want to keep the same upholstery (stock OEM) but need to repair this, what do you suggest?

I'm thinking my only option is pull the whole thing apart and rebuild it, replacing the wood and SS nutzerts, then have an upholstery shop put it back together.

Any better suggestions?

Finding the material is almost impossible.

I think you need to look for a used seat and bracket and these are no longer made.

Joe Kriz, the upholstery material and padding appear to be in very good shape.

The screws that mount the aluminum folding hinges to the seat bottom have come loose and the screws won't loosen or tighten. The t-nuts seem to be spinning in the wood in the seat base and seat back.

In addition, the swivel base was rusted up and basically non-recoverable.
