I have a 2001 23 Outrage, and the rubber weather strip /gasket on the console (between the two main pieces of the console) has shrunk. I want to replace it, is there a recommended type of material that wont shrink? Any suggestions would be most welcome.
I looked at the parts diagram and nothing is shown for that. Try Sue at Twin-Cities Marine as she knows Whaler parts. Also if you are familiar with McMaster-Carr in Atlanta, they may have something that would work for you.
Thought about this for a while and what came as a solution is to remove the old weather strip/gasket and tape out the seam with blue masking tape. Use a marine silicone sealant such as from Boat Life or a 3M marine silicone sealant in black. Then remove tape before sealant sets up. Reason for black is two fold- will look OEM and will not show mold/mildew down the road and also won't shrink.
Thanks. The silicone ideal is brilliant. I will give that a go.
Also, I did get a reply from the Boston Whaler web site - if anyone wants to know, the part number is 1020924 and can be ordered by the foot. The part was referred to as "L shaped vinyl molding with self adhesive".
Thanks again, I am going to go with the silicone plan, since it is my bet that the "vinyl molding" will just shrink again.
