I own a 1985 13 Sport without side rails. I have obtained a set from a 1977 13 Sport. Before I start drilling holes, can I install the 1977 set on the 1985 as they were installed on the 1977? The 1977 did not have thru hull stanchions. Thanks

The drawing in our downloads section shows that all models had the thru hull fittings.

However they did not have the bottom fitting on the ends where the rail screwed to the hull.

Joe, I had looked at that download and it said "prior to 1977 only". The 1977 that the rails came from definitely did not have the stanchions. Thanks

As far as I know, they all had thru hull stanchions. (anything else is possible however)

The only difference is the foot of the rails.
The early ones did not have feet on the ends of the rails except the ones in the center where it was mounted on the wood.

Here is a 1980 where you can clearly see the thru hull fittings.

And here is a 1973 model with the thru hull fittings.

And a 1977 model with the thru hull fittings.

Some had the thru-hull fittings, some didn't. I think it has more to do with whether they were installed at the factory or installed later by dealers or boat owners.

I have a 1979 Sport 13 in my driveway now that does not have any thru-hull fittings for the side rails.
