I am going to install some teak rails/hangers inside the cabin of my 22 foot 1979 Whaler Revenge (place for spoons, hoochies, apexes to dangle). A local hardwood distributor has 4/4 (13/16 inches thick) and 8/4 (1 and 3/4 inches thick) in 8 feet to 10 feet lengths. The widths vary from 6 inches to 8 inches. I was just going to get the smallest 4/4 for myself and let the remaining piece kick around for future projects. I read the "Where to buy mahogany" posting and thought if some one wanted my leftover length I could send it out for my cost (minus the material I use) plus shipping and packaging. I would prefer a single shipment and can pack the length in a drain pipe (I have mailed fishing rods to myself this way). The teak sells for $32 a board foot here. If I knew some one wanted it beforehand, and wanted the thicker wood, I would rip the material I need and send the remainder.

Explanation of board foot: A board foot is 12 inches x 12 inches x 1 inch thick. A 6 inch wide piece of 4/4 teak at $32 a board foot means a 2 foot long board would cost $32 plus tax. An 8/4 would cost $64. The piece that I need ( I can get different dimensions) translates to 8 feet x 4/4 x 6 inches wide = $128 plus tax. So, I only need a couple of long table saw rippings and my spoils would join my collection of wood kicking around. If a club member did not have access to this material, I can accommodate the purchase, but I cannot go around cutting a bunch of small stuff.
