1963 Sport 13 Pulley steering cable?

Member Personal Page Posts: 9 Comments: 0 Joined: 11/22/13	Someone just gave me a 1963 Boston Whaler classic 13 with a 1970 40hp Johnson. Sat for 10 years in calif desert. After a few weeks of chasing down parts I have it running. The steering is the cable pulley sytem which i plan to keep. I want to repalce the Cable, steering wheel and springs: 1. So what type of cable is it(steel, stainless steel, size, etc) and where to get ? 2. The steering wheel is a white Kainer and is falling apart. where can and what can I replace the steering wheel with(size of shaft appears 3/4").? 3. Two spring in back near pulleys are rusted would like to replace these as well.. where to get? ... all other parts of the steering appear to be in great condition. I just bought all new wood from specialty Marine and some led lights for bow and stern. and yet having hard time finding the above parts. Any guidance for the rookie would be helpful. Thanks Dug

The steering wheel is no different from automotive steering wheels of the 50's-70's You can dremel out the cracks, use POR 15, fill, sand, prime, paint. Pictures to see how bad it would be helpful? Do a YouTube search for repairing antique car steering wheels. At best, it looks new when your done, at worst it's trashed and you get one on ebay.
