Hi all -- I have a 1964 Nauset that has the original console and back bench (non reversible). I would prefer to swap it out for the reversible RPS with cushion and the Z legs. I already have the back rest and metal swivel rods to this configuration, but would need to buy the Z legs and cushion.
All I can find are starboard Z legs as opposed to the aluminum ones used on an original katama I have. Is starboard an adequate substitute??
Also, I may opt to build my own RPS, with some storage space under the bench...either for gear or tackle or both. Has anyone done this and come up with a relalitively simple and successful design? I believe Whalers used Phillipine mahogony? Is this stuff still availalbe, what are some look-alikes, and where/how would I go about getting it?
any insights greatly appreciated!
(moderator note: changed abbreviated year to the full 4 digit year)
In order to do this you'll need to raise the height of the RPS by about 6" by using either blocks or I saw one of the sponsors of this site sells an extended Z leg that's probably well worth the money if it's high enough.
Can't imagine how you could fabricate something like that out of Starboard and probably not worth the cost or effort.
