What is the proper sizing and configuation for the bilge pump on a 1989 15 super Sport? Is this a totally auto pump set up?

I recall a bilge pump was not a standard feature on this model and may have been added by a dealer or prior owner.

A 500 gal/min Rule or Johnson Controls model will work. If you choose a model with the float switch included, verify the height and ensure it will fit under the sump cover. It may not. the stand-alone pump with a separate float switch will fit.

For a small boat sump like a 13,15 or 17' Whaler, I think the only pump worth installing is the super compact Rule 500 GPH, with self contained "chip" auto sensing, about $60. Wired to a simple on-off dash switch, it will do everything you need. When not needed, it can be OFF. When needed occasionally while boating it can be manually turned ON and OFF. or left on if water is continuously coming aboard. When away from the boat for up to a week, with rain in the forecast, it can be left on and will continually sense for water and pump it out as necessary. Battery drain is minimal.

here is my Montauk installation:

The white Ancor cable wrapped around the pump is the on-off power from the switch. The caulk filled orange wire nuts are the waterproof connections, and make the pump easy to replace if necessary. The smooth wall discharge tube is bundled with the steering/engine wiring/controls and discharges over the top of the transom through an "L" fitting.

Thank you. I'll be installing the Rule pump as suggested. Makes the most sense.
