15' super sport bow rail modification.

Member Posts: 85 Comments: 0 Joined: 05/15/11	Helping a friend clean up a 15' super sport 1988. We removed the interior and bow rails so that we can strip the bottom to a realistic waterline etc.. It's temping to not reinstall the bow rail because the boat has such awesome lines. Has anyone lowered the rails so that they are there but much lower. Ie... Cut 6" off each vertical piece and make them less awkward but still have something to grab onto if needed. As always, your input is greatly appreciated. My 1986 Outrage 18 didn't have them, and I think it looks better than if it did, and fish can be easily worked over the gunnels and bow without rail interference. The rails were optional safety equipment, and they are good for the safety of passengers who ride in the bow area of the boat while it's underway, but if you don't plan on having guests up there, I don't see why you really need them. I have a bow area fishing post where I can sit and cast to fish while trolling around the lakes around here, and estuaries on the coast, and easily work most fish into the boat in the bow area without those rails interfering.

Im a big fan of super sport rails 1989 Montauk 17' w/ F70 Yamaha

First time for everything.
