I would like to purchase 2 rod holders to mount on the rail that runs behind (and the width of) the stern seat on my 18' Outrage. I am looking to purchase from Lee's Tackle. Lee's has 2 options as I see it. An aluminum rod holder and a brass with chrome plating rod holder. I run my boat in both fresh and salt water. Not sure which would be better for my use. I am more interested in durability, but not sure the pros and cons of either. Any comments on either option would be appreciated.

mct,

Using the "Site Search" on the left sidebar would help you out.

Here is one I found recently.

The only rod holders Lee's currently makes and sells are the Aluminum ones. If your looking to hang them off the stern seat rail, I would look for some of the newer clamp on style from folks like C.E. Smith, Taco that come in stainless and have the same mount as the old lee's making them more adjustable.
Because of where the rail sits, i was only ever able to mount 2 toward the outside. For those i actually don't have lee's but another type of the same vintage as the original Lee's.

The best rod holders are chrome over brass by lees, The best place to find them is either on line (ebay, craigslist), next place are marine flea markets and used boat/parts places...If you find some that are not that good looking you can have them rechromed...

I'd always go for Stainless over brass with chrome plating. In my experience the chrome starts deteriorating in about a year in salt regardless of polishing and rinsing.
