This is a 1974, 17 montauk with a U shaped fish holders on the deck, they make the U on the deck around the center console toward the stern. Where they an aftermarket item or what? They are taking up too much room. Any history or present value of this attachment welcome!
New to this site and have pictures but can't find any upload, attachment area on the site?

Sounds aftermarket to me but without photos, don't know for sure.
Put a link to your photo here.
(Just like the link I show below)
You can view the Montauks in the link below and also the personal page link on the left sidebar.

Could you be referring to the optional forward fishing platform?
You can find pictures in the parts section or view mine from a 1974 Montauk in my personal page.
I suppose some guys might use these bins as fish lockers.

Gamalot,
Good one.
He put a comment on the Forward Casting Platform so that is what he is referring to.

That is a nice piece of optional equipment.
I would have liked one of those on my prior Montauk.

Thanks Joe. Finding a nice optional piece such as this platform and especially if it has all the original Teak hatch covers is a prize. I have always wondered how expensive this option was back then?
When BW changed from smirk less to smirked hulls they also changed from the winged consoles and possibly made some other subtle hull configuration changes. A platform from a 1973-1976 smirk less hull will not fit in a smirked hull. I can easily see this as a $1,000 plus option and suspect it is a rather rare piece as many would not have bought them.
I am sure I share a desire to see photos of a fully optioned early Montauk with all the available extras that could have been added. Here are a few that I am aware of, Bimini with full canvas forward shelter, forward fishing platform and a rear insert that has seats and a live bait well. There were other options like a forward fishing chair but some may not work with others. I imagine one could have spent a considerable sum fully optioning an early Montauk.

Original retail was $390.00 for the Montauk Bow platform with Teak hatches. In today's dollars that would be just shy of 2k
In 1974 the Montauk costs $2840.00 or just over 14k in todays dollars.

Thanks Kamie. In today's dollars you would spend a lot more than $390 just buying the Teak lumber to rebuild the hatch covers.
