Is there such thing as a private message on this site? Or open discussion only? Still trying to figure out the layout of the site, someone just pointed me to the search function yesterday.

Thanks.

Looks like we ditched the PM feature.

Remember, you can always send an email (which works better anyway and will get a faster response) but if the question or comment relates to boats, why not share it with everybody so everybody can learn from the dialog?

Was eliminating them a plan or is there a problem that is being fixed?

Can we ask why? Always seemed a good way to contact someone and didn't seem to get in the way...

Ask Joe. I for one do not miss them. I believe they were problematic.

Now I'm hoping Joe can ditch those stupid yellow "auto-smilies" that keep popping up in my posts anytime a punctuation mark gets anywhere near an open or close parentheses.

;-)

Private Messages are gone.
There are many, many reasons and Tom gave a good one above.

We really want to keep all public conversations going here, not in a Private Message.
All questions and responses should be carried on here in the discussion areas so we all can see and benefit from such discussions.

Tom, here is a Tip for you and everyone else.
At the bottom of anyone's new post, there is a box.
"Disable Smileys"
Put a checkmark in that box and you will not see a smiley in your punctuation marks before hitting the Post Reply button which is right below the Disable Smileys box.

I am sure people had messages saved for reference - it would have been nice to let people know so they could move the information. But then again - its your playground - not ours.

so now you(we) need to ask the questions publicly again and get answers for everybody. Not that bad especially if you acted upon them already and have more input for us.
Happy boating.

But that wasn't the point of PM's or how most of us used them.

PMs were used to exchange phone numbers, addresses etc. that has no business on the public portion of this site. Ya, there's email as joe states above but it's not the same thing.

This is the only boating site I've been on where there's no longer a PM function.

Oh well.
