I have a 17' Custom. I ordered a Moeller 19 gallon tank and installation kit to put in the center console, to free up floor space. I put the stainless steel, filler on the side of the console along with the vent and hooked it up. Tonight I went to the gas station and attempted to fill it up. More gas ran out of the filler than went in. Any ideas what the problem could be?

If I had to guess I would say there might be a problem with the vent line. You need to displace the air with gas and the air doesn't to be moving fast enough. Check the vent line for kinks. Just shooting from the hip with the info provided.

Also the vent line needs a loop in it which is higher than the vent fitting.

I winter in Ft. Myers and summer in St. Joseph, Michigan. It’s now about 12 years since I’ve joined this group. I gave my 1972 whaler to my daughter and sold the 17’. Bought an O’Day 28 sailboat and sailed on Lake Michigan. Yesterday I bought a 2005 130 Sport.

Is the neck a angled or straight? Is the filler on the side or top of the console. Not to make it sound too simple but you have to be putting gas in faster than it can get into the tank. Is the fill going straight into the top or is it flat? I suppose what I am getting to is question the size and bends of your fill hose.

Is the loop to help prevent possible water getting in through the vent fitting?

Yes, that is the purpose of the loop in the line.
