My 13 footer came with a river anchor that had a fair amount of surface rust. I have wire brushed the rust and have sprayed Rustoleum rusty metal primer on it. But what to use for a topcoat ? Paint or a rubber coating like Dip It or maybe truck bed liner ? I want to protect the anchor and the boats storage locker. So what to use ?

I'd forget the paint or whatever and take it to a hot dip galvanizing shop. It'll come out looking like new. Rubber coatings etc won't last and will inhibit the anchor digging in for a good set. this works for anchor rode chain also.

I use Rustoleum cold galvanize on mine and touch it up as it wears off.

I think I'll just paint it and use it, not going to spend much money when new ones can be bought for not much money. Thanks

What part of GA. are you boating in? If your on the coast you will need a fluke style sooner of later.

I'm in Marietta and plan to only boat in inland lakes so the river anchor should be fine. I have yet to put this boat in the water it was purchased as a project but I am very close to being done. Hope to have her in the water in April.

Yes it should be fine. I just see a lot of people down on the coast that underestimate the current in tidal areas.

Cheaper and easier to just use the rusty one or go buy a new one.
