Hello. I recently purchased a 1997 17 ft outrage. I just realized that the stainless steel cover that was on the side of the boat isn't there anymore. The part that i am talking about is stainless steel piece that covers a little mesh hole that goes to the gas tank... I have not used the boat since i found out because i know how bad it is to get water into your gas tank...

If somebody could give me a link on where to buy a replacement for that part i would appreciate it. Thanks

I have no idea what you are referring to and I had a 1997 Outrage 17' model.

Do you have any photos?

Mine didn't have the separate vent.

My vent was incorporated into the Gas Cap/Fill however I have seen other 1997 models with the separate vent.

Here is the separate vent system.

i still have the part in the picture. what i lost was what i can only describe as a cover for the tank vent... it shielded the water that came from the front and towards the back it was open.. i'm sorry if i am not being too clear. i am new to boating and english isn't my first language.

it has three screw holes if that helps.

The fuel tank vent does not typically have a cover. Somebody may have added a clam shell ventilator at some pint, but the boat did not leave the factory with one.

Yes that is the thing! glad to know it isn't important i was worrying that maybe some water had sneaked in before i knew the clam shell vent was gone. but since the holes are already there ill get a replacement. should i get the 2"x2" is that the correct size

There are different sizes.

1 5/8" x 1 1/2"
http://www.whalercentral.com/photogal...hoto_id=33

You will need to match the holes you already have.
Do you have just the 3 holes?

Or 5 holes and 2" x 2" (they come new with 3 holes)
