I am replacing the switches etc on my dash. Does anyone know where I can get the 5A replacements in the photo? I also want to switch out the Teleflex steering mechanism. Where can I get that with the cables and what can I expect to pay for it? I have a 1985 Montauk with a 1985 Yamaha 90 4 stroke on it. Thanks Sean

The fuse holders are the old Perko Fig. # 516 style fuse holders which are no longer made (the updated version is #532). Try eBay for some N.O.S.

The steering cable is an old Safe-T system. You have lots of options for replacing it, and I recommend you do so.

You can buy a Teleflex 3.0 or 4.2 system with, or without the NFB clutch feature.

You can also buy the new Xtreme steering system which is a huge improvement in smoothness and tightness for a mechanical system. It is 5.0 turns lock-to-lock which is very slow though, in my opinion, but it matches the BayStar hydraulic system in that regard.

A complete Teleflex mechanical system kit will range for $100 to $350 if you shop right. BayStar hydraulic starts at about $500 and add another $120 if you upgrade to the SeaStar hoses.

Blue sea makes a replacement for the fuse holders, though they don't look exactly alike.

Other companies make them too, but I think those are the best for value vs. cost.

Try West Marine for the switches, use Tom's description/part numbers, they may have them or can order them from Perko.Blue Seas makes a lable sheet that will work well for the pannel. Also the fuse holders can be had from Blue Seas and also can be purchased from West Marine. The steering needs replacing and the 4.2 Teleflex NFB system would be ideal for your set-up.

I installed the Blue Sea switches from West Marine and they seem to be holding up well after 3 years now. I made replacement pannels out of black marine plastic, I also bought from them and I think they can order the cables and the steering box if you know what you're looking for.

Here are the four complete Teleflex mechanical systems that would all work fine with a Montauk. Assuming you choose the 18' cable (which is correct for a Montauk, though some get by with only a 17' cable), the prices I found with a quick google search show the kits can be bought inexpensively. This is by no means a comprehensive list of the lowest prices available, I just grabbed some quick hits.

You can choose whether you want the No-Feedback (NFB) clutch feature or not, as well as the "speed" of the steering system (the mechanical gearing that trades steering effort for response/turn of the steering wheel.)

Safe-T-QC, Teleflex part #SS13718
3.0 turns lock-to-lock and does NOT provide any NFB feature. It is a direct replacement of what you have. $120.02
http://www.blackbearsportinggoods.com...s13718.htm

Safe-T-II, Teleflex part # SS13218
3.0 turns lock-to-lock and does have the NFB feature. $169.15
http://www.blackbearsportinggoods.com...s13218.htm

NFB 4.2, Teleflex part # SS14718
4.2 turns lock-to-lock and does have the NFB feature. $168.30
http://www.blackbearsportinggoods.com...s14718.htm

Teleflex XTREME, Teleflex part # SSX17618
5.0 turns lock-to-lock and does have NFB feature. $320.95
http://www.pbsboatstore.com/Teleflex-...eering.htm

I do not recommend West Marine unless you are hard up. They sell the NFB 4.2 system for $279.99

Yes, it looks like you could use a new Light Switch.

"No Feedback" means the steering wheel can move the outboard, but the motor cannot move the steering wheel.

WOW,$280.00 from west!! good thing I found a NEW 4.2 NFB system on e-bay for $155.00 with s&h when I replaced mine.I mentioned west marine only as this maybe his only local source for equip./parts.S&H is high these days so you have to figure that in the total cost of the equip./parts when shopping arround.

Ok thanks Tom, I just ordered the NFB 4.2, Teleflex part # SS14718 from Black Bear. They had the best price. I think whoever installed my last one must have installed the 17ft because there is no room in the aft where it comes back out to the motor. It is immpossible get a cover over the bilge pump area.

in the first post of this thread I have a photo. Can anyone tell me what the cigarette lighter looking thing is? I looks like I can plug some sort of accessory into it. Thanks Sean

It's a polarized socket for use with anything that uses a polarized plug.
