AquaVor Here,
I just joined the site and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our 1985 27' FC from the east coast to So Cal Q: We need to install a 2-3 scoop Offshore bait tank and not real sure how to install the through hull fitting without compromising the foam between the layers of glass in bottom. Anyone done this before? We would rather not use a transome mounted pump if we can help it.
Thank!

Thats REALLY good information Thank you!
I was thinking that might be the case. Where can I find the specs on that?
The boat is not here yet but should be by mid week

I put it through Hull in my Montauk 17 for a transducer. It can be done if you do it right. The trick is going with a larger hole to the inside of the boat Hull. Then filling that area with Matt and glass then drill your whole for your thru Hull. There is one picture of my personal page.

When re-fitting the Nancy G, a 16' smirkless, I created an approx. 6"x8" sump area beside the engine end of end of the control and steering cable tunnel. This area accomodates a bilge pump and a thru-hull bait pump suitable for this sized boat. So far so good.

If you can't play hurt....stay home.

I'd love to see some detailed pictures of the finished project if you don't mind. I know for sure the wood around my sump area is totally rotted from water intrusion around the screw holes that held the sump cap plate in place. There's probably no real reason for me to fix it but one of the things I've considered is enlarging that whole sump area to make more room for a bildge pump, through hull water pickup, and transducer.

I'm pretty good with fiberglass work but I'm having trouble visualizing what the whole thing would look like or where /how the transducer wire would exit the fiberglass.

I have an 1989 Montauk, does anyone know what the thickness is between the bottom of the sump area and the bottom of the hull? Is it solid glass, foam, or wood?
