Hello, I just added a starter to my manual start 55hp Evinrude. The r/r floor has 4 small holes where a battery hold down would go. I bought a battery box from BOW and the cheap plastic brackets are the wrong size to match the holes in the floor and if I use the template mount underneath the battery box.
Questions, are those holes factory? I am the second owner and am sure the previous owner did not put them there. If so are the factory brackets available somewhere? The BOW box is actually narrower than the factory brackets. So the strap would not fit quite right if I made new brackets from some brass flat stock I bought. . I hate to drill more holes in the floor to use the BOW battery box. I found a couple threads about OE Whaler battery boxes but I guess they are NLA. I appreciate any input and advice. Thank you.
Joe, the manual says the location was free, so evidentally these holes must have been put in the by dealer. This is the original engine on the boat is a manual start. There is fuse box on the r/r side near where the battery hold down holes are. The bow light and stern light tie in there.
So, I guess I am on my own to figure something out? To clarify the whaler battery box is NLA and the strap clamps are NLA as well? I'd like to know the spacing on the original clamps hole to hole and if someone has a picture that would be helpful as well. What are others doing? Thanks again.
