I have been in contact with Janis, @ Magic Brush, regarding replacement vinyl overlays for the instrument panels on my center console of my 1987 Outrage 18. She has never done these before but is willing to give it a go. Her printer will not print white pinstripes, it will do light gray and that is fine for me. The issue is cut outs in the instrumentation for gauges, fuses, etc. that vary from boat to boat, even within the same model and model year.
I have offered to mail her my panels, as a template. If others are interested, please email me a good photo of each of your panels. I am going to compile a wish list for Janis and we will see what we can do from there.
Please let me know, via a post here, if you have sent me an email regarding this.
We have many more photos of panels in our "OEM Part Photos and Info" link on the left sidebar.
Here is a newer style that Whaler offered. Again, no holes from the factory other then the 4 mounting holes in the corner. http://www.whalercentral.com/photogal...hoto_id=84
I have one used original instrument panel for sale however it does have 2 large holes (3 1/2") cutout for a Tachometer and Speedometer or 2 Multi-Funtion Gauges.
You must have missed reading all the above articles and photos as we have covered these Instrument and Switch panels quite frequently.
Thanks for the links, Joe. I had already seen the technical drawing and original photo on this site. When I searched on instrument panel, I got 508 hits, when I added the word Outrage there were thousands, when I dropped outrage and added restoration, there were 2212 hits. I simply did not have the time to go through them, particularly since my post is to see if anyone wants to try to get a run made through Janis. I saw a post from several years ago where Sue @ Twin Cities had them, but they were the newer style (no corner radial cut in the pin-striping) and at that time, they were $45/piece. I like to re-use what I can, when practical and not back breaking, hence the thought about Janis.
Rob Schmidt and I are trying to organize a run of replacement panels from Whaler's current OEM of instrument panels that are true to the ones used before 1991 [made by LORCO Marine, no longer in business] with the correct silk screened pinstripe and all.
There will be both the Montauk Switch Panels as well as the blank Instrument Panels used on both Montauks and Outrages including Super Consoles, which used three of them horizontally.
Joe, I have updated drawings of the originals that are more accurate and detailed than yours. Shall I send them to you for the Downloads Section?
We are awaiting pricing, feasibility and minimum quantity information from the manufacturer.
That's funny Tom, Rob Schmidt is the reason I made contact with Janis in the first place. He did not indicate that you guys were pursuing other options, options are great. I'd be interested in seeing what you get for a price, if they have the radial corners detail on the pinstripes. I am not interested in the later model, squared corners (I think Rob already has a set of the later ones). What kind of finish product have you requested a quote for?
I did some custom pinstripes, with a fine artists brush, on a guitar headstock and pick guard years ago and realized I don't have the hand to do that caliber of work myself.
