Long story I will make short. I had a matched pair of down rigger rods and reels and took a neighbor fishing. I now have just one rod and reel because he missed the rod holder and it went to the bottom in 100 FOW. I tried without luck to drag it up.
The reel was a Daiwa Sealine 27 SH level wind and I have had this set for probably 20 years. The reel is still made but they sell for around $100 new and I can't find a good used one on Ebay or CL. I can find the 27 H models at reasonable prices. What I don't know and can't seem to find the info is what is the difference between the 27 H and 27 SH reels.
I suspect it is the retrieval rate and the SH stands for super high speed while the H stands for high speed. The SH has a 4.6/1 ratio but I have no idea what the H model has or if there is that much difference. I do like to have a matched pair but could settle for a slight difference which is what it appears I may have to do.
Can anyone find the specs on these 2 models? The 27 Sh is easy but the H model must be discontinued. Does anyone have either one of these reels they might part with reasonably?
My neighbor is 87 and was completely horrified when he dropped the rod and will not be happy until he replaces it with a new or used set up. It is much easier taking friends fishing and teaching them how to use the reels when both are identical.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune and hope you find the exact model. If I had one I would give it to you…
Kudos for taking an 87 year old fishing.

Keep an eye on eBay - I expect you will see that model.
I heard a Niantic charter boat Captain talk this Winter about his choice of reels. Based on that, I decided to add (2) Sealine reels to my arsenal.
This Winter on eBay I found the Daiwa Sealine 300H for $44 and a 50H for $29
I've got them rigged waiting for the last few bits of my Nauset to be ready for action.

The 27 H and HS are the smallest of the Sealine reels and good for fish such as Salmon, Trout and Walleye. What I am finding rather odd is that I can buy much larger reels from Daiwa and even ones that have the line counter option for a lot less than these standard and relatively smaller reels. I can easily buy 2 of the larger 47LC reels for less than the price of one 27 H or HS. I might have to go that route even though I have no need for line counter and larger reels.

Just an FYI - Actually Daiwa makes a smaller line counter version, the SG17LCA, and also a budget version of that reel.
EDIT: Geez my first official post and I grave rob a thread...sorry guys.

I've been watching both the 27H and 27SH models there. I am just trying to exactly match what was lost, 27SH which I can buy new from many dealers for $85. I will never be able to match the rod exact because it is long out of production so if I remain anal I will have to buy two new rods and a new reel to match things back the way they were.
