The axle on my 2005 Super Sport 13 trailer is rusted through and needs to be relaced. It is a straight galvanized axle with slipper springs. I notice the new Sport 13 trailer comes with a torsion axle. Does anyone have any experience replacing a straight axle with a torsion axle? If so, what is a good source for a torsion axle that will stand up to salt water.

I would just stay with the same type of axle, this way it will match all of the hardware on the trailer for the connection. Now you need to purchase a solid gal. axle and new bearings, After the install coat the axle with LPS #3, this puts a coat of grease like substance on the axle, and I would coat the springs, nuts and bolts as well. I have a 1975 Horizon Trailer, when I purchased the trailer the 1st thing I did was coat the trailer with this stuff, I still have the same axle and only change the springs once....

X2 Contenders statement.... I'd stay with the same type axle or buy a whole new trailer all together.
I coated my axle with........spray on bed liner.... yep, sure did. That was five years ago and I've dipped it into salt water many times with no issues at all.
As with anything used in salt water, a thorough cleansing with fresh water is always in order.

I wouldn't spend the extra money on a torsion axle. With that light of boat I'm not sure it would make much difference.

I appreciate the input, especially the advise on LPS#3. The trailer was built by Karavan Trailers and they sell replacement axles that are exact replacements, eliminating /minimizing mods.

I would be willing to bet the original axle Karavan used is available locally from any RV/trailer repair place. I agree on the exact replacement axle and on the coating after install.

I agree that a torsen axle is a bit of an upgrade and not necessary. I am very surprised and dismayed that a 2005 Karavan axle is rusted through already.
My 2003 Load Rite galvanized torsen axle is dunked in saltwater (I trailer) and shows practically no rust.
I would not buy a Karavan replacement given the low quality.
