Hello all,
I live in San ANtonio and have a Whaler 13 with some old bottom paint and some other topside and interior paint from a good quality restoration about 11 years ago (previous owner). Does anyone know of a good place to get the hull stripped, sanded, and re-gelled or painted with a higher quality finish around my area? Thanks very much...Rob
Can't tell you about anything up your neck of the woods, but I have a guy I use here in Corpus Christi. His name is Bruce Wild, of Wild Marine, and he is an extremely talented individual. Definitely on the slow side, as I learned with previous dealings, but well priced, and outstanding work. If your interested, let me know and I'll dig his number up for you. He's a good guy, and allowed me to work as his "apprentice" sanding etc, so i could learn about gel coating.
I would also suggest talking to Texas Whaler, who lives in Victoria, and had extensive work done to his 25 Outrage transom.
A bunch of the Whaler owners around Houston and Galveston use Orlando's Fiberglass if you don't mind driving to Kemah. These guys are well versed in Whalers:
2315 Lawrence Road
Kemah, TX 77565-3116
(281) 334-2902
Here's Bruce Wilds phone number, 361 225 0037, home is 361 949 7623. Have no experience with the guys referenced over at Orlando's Fiberglass, but have heard of them as being very experenced with Boston Whalers, and apparently do really good work.
I'd happily drive to Corpus or Houston to get the work done. I have read about Orlando's somewhere on the internet and it was all good. I'll call them both next week when I get home from a work trip I'm on. Thanks again guys.
I have known Joe Orlando from the time he worked for the now defunct, Meek's Marine, our previous local Whaler dealer, when the owner, John, who was just an awesome guy, became ill and past away. After Meek's dealership closed, Joe went out on his own and has established himself as an expert craftsman. He has done work on both my Whalers, and also for a handful of buddies who have Whalers. He has all kinds of miscellaneous hard to find parts for Whalers. He will listen and make his recommendations, but will do what you decide to do. He is not cheap, but if you want your project done right, go see Joe.
