Hi Guys-

I ordered new gaskets for my 8in and 6in beckson plates on my 84 Outrage 18. The gaskets do not fit - the diameter is too large and the plates will not push back into the outer ring.

I called Beckson and talked to a great guy who made sure I had the right part numbers (I did) and then explained that sometimes the run of gaskets can have variance and he would send me a few more. He insisted that these are the same gaslets they have been using for 30yrs and that the plate design has not changed in 30yrs. I just received them and have the same problem.

I know I could replace the plates but I dont want to do that (they are in good condition). Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it?

Thanks
Graham

make sure there is no dirt and grim around where the plate goes and also make sure there is no dirt pushing the O ring out farther than it should. There is not a lot of give and it's a tight fit until the O ring smashes down a bit.

Are you sure you have Beckson Deck Plates?
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...ticle_id=3

Maybe you have PYHI Deck Plates....
If you have a 1984 model, see this article on 18' Hull Owners and the details.
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...icle_id=21

Everyone so far with a 1984 model has PYHI Deck Plates.
Everyone with 1985 and above have Beckson Deck Plates....

You may need to change out the entire deck plate to Beckson unless you can find older gaskets for your PYHI...

HI Joe-

I know they are Beckson plates - says Beckson on the plate cover.

However, not so sure I know the year of my boat! After double checking, it is an 85 not an 84!

Kamie-

If you are bored one day, give it a try. I would be interested to see what you find.

Measure the diamiter of the o-ring and then measure the diamiter of the groove that the o-ring fits into. Get a sharp safety blade razor and new supper glue and cut the o-ring square as you can,cut out the differance minus a smidge and glue the two ends together. It's sorta like making your own o-ring. Had to do this with mine a few years ago and still holding together. I also use Syl-glide silicon grease on the o-rings.

I installed new Beckson gaskets on my floor plates. Because they are doing what they are supposed to do, keep out water, they fit tight and you have to wipe the O-ring with oil before pushing the plate back in.
