I live on Long Island and would like to know if anyone has a good camping spot not too far upstate. An ideal place would be lakeside camping with launch access.
Thanks for any info, Chris

Chris

Look at the northhampton state campground on great sacandaga lake. Sacandaga is a huge lake and the campground has waterfront spots a great ramp and amenities. I have a house up there and love the area.

If you wanted to camp in Manhatten, just bring a cardboard box for your hut and a sterno lamp for your camp fire...... Lol. Just sayin'!!

Stillwater Reservoir just above Old Forge and Inlet in the ADK mountains. Has a nice launch and parking area with showers and I believe the lake is 7-9 miles long. Lots of nice lake side camp sites but you will be beaching your boat on mostly sand. The sites are wilderness camping and have no amenities but you are allowed to cut any already down trees for fire wood. Decent bass fishing and a fairly quiet place. Sites are on a first come basis and free as is the parking.

Navigation can be tricky as there are hazards so it is absolutely necessary to buy the lake map and stay in the main channel in a few spots.

This was from our last trip there.

Hi Chris,
You may want to check out the Raquette lake area in the Daks as well.I've trailered my Whaler up there a couple of times. There are alot of campgrounds and there are stores close by for supplies. Chris

I second the stillwater lake. We go up there every year and it is great.
