I am looking for some rear wrap around rails that will fit a 1989 13 ft. sport. Or if no avail. Side rails that will.

Seems like a custom item you're looking for and you may have to go to a local marine fabricator. They shouldn't be too hard to make if you cannot find them for your Whaler. Tom Clark knows all there is to know about Whalers so I'm sure he'll chime in and let you know the scoop.

You can call Fred at CMI.
They used to make most all of the railings for the Classic Whalers.

Hi Joe,
Hate to be a pest. I tried CMI and no response yet. If you would be kind enough to take a look at the 13 ft. sourpuss models. Most of them have this railing with seat back support. I "think" it was an optional item at the time. But man I scratching and digging on this one. Like I said. Sorry to be a pest. But I really have my heart set on this one. I know if any one, you're the man that would know.

I’m just curious how much the wrap around rails are worth. I have an original set that came with my 1973 Sport and am not sure whether I will ever use them or not. I did the hull restoration last summer but did not finish the interior restoration until late fall so I haven’t had the boat in the water yet. I’m thinking the wrap around rails will block access to the transom. I don’t have power tilt and trim. I’m sure they add some comfort but I don’t know how the access issue will play out.

Regardless of price they are worth their weight in gold! Even though they only privide a short backrest it beats the hell out of just sitting on a bench. Being able to lean back and cruise around really adds to the comfort level of the boat. The top access cooler behind the seat is just an armlength away!

Hi Bob,
Fred quoted me $685.00. That's with all the hardware. No wood. You are right. The back rest does limit access to the transom. The only reason I want another set is for rod holders for trolling. If you are interested in getting rid of them, please let me know. I might be interested. I just can't fork out $700.00 right now. I'm kicking myself for getting rid of those things.

Greetings
I spent my younger years growing up on a 1974 Sourpuss which we still have (currently being cleaned up and re-powered - I'll post pictures ASAP).
We also have the original blue Mills cushions - all four of them - that went on the seats.
The really nice thing about the back rest, short of comfort, is also the ability to use them for rod holders. My dad rigged ours with two rod holders, one on each side. Not only do they give the boat a great look while cruising with poles mounted (like mini outriggers), but, make for a quick pick-up once you stop for a drift. You never need to stand. Just stay seated, bring the boat to a stop and reach for the pole. Standing astern, you can also work two poles off the transom this way.
Transom access was never too much of an issue and we ran an old 20hp Johnson Seahorse with a pull start for years. If you keep the engine well tuned, you can even lean back and pull start without getting up. The center steering of the Sourpuss is also a nice feature, keeping the boat balanced if you're a big guy.
We love our Sourpuss and think it is really the best configuration of the 13' hull designs. The only thing I would change is adding a small mahogany rear locker behind the rear back rest as long as you can figure out a way that did not mess up the lacing for the Mills cushions. I assume this could be achieved the same way the front back rest is attached to steering platform, with cut-outs to get your hands in there and lace the cushion up.

About Sourpuss cushions.
We have one member that says his were made by "Bull Ding 21 Top Company"

Well, I stand corrected!
My dad always told us they were made by Mills, but......I just took a look and they are indeed from another shop.
I've uploaded the tag to my personal page. Doesn't seem to be there yet but, shows up on my edit page.
