I just purchased 2 new old stock Tempo vented fuel caps (part#119BFC/040070) for my Mirax 12 gallon fuel
tanks. They fit great and seem to be a much tighter seal. My question is for anyone else who has this knurled brass vent cap as well.
Do you leave them in the open/vented position all the time, or do you close them tight ever? In other words what is the best way to use them.
Do they ever leak out the vent when open? I was not sure if the tanks would build to much pressure if the vents were closed. Just looking for advice on how best to use them.
Thanks,
Gary

Leave the vents open unless you are moving the tanks.

Yes, they will leak a bit under extreme conditions like a lot of boat motion when the tanks are totally full.

Yes, the tanks will build a lot of pressure if you close the vents, though so long as you open them before you start your motor, it is not a problem.

Mine are corroded and didn't clean up so well... mind if I ask who you purchased them from and how much they set you back? Thanks.

I purchased them at Amazon for around $25 for the pair with shipping. Used them this weekend on my Mirax tanks.
They worked perfectly, no seeping or leaking of any kind (caps that came with the tanks from Mirax leaked).
Tanks themselves are however very good. The Tempo caps are also much easier to use, they have nubs on them for
a better grip.

After reading this thread I jumped on Amazon and found the caps. Ordered a pair for my tanks that arrived today. Talk about a small world. The gal selling them on Amazon lives right down the street from me and I drove right past her place 20 times while waiting for them to get here. I also paid the ridiculous almost $10 to have them shipped. OUCH!
