don't know how much wieght it will support, i made it double thick (pipe inside pipe) but the weak link is the joints, it feels fairly or just as solid as the aluminum ladders that i have been on. the standoffs were made from aluminum disc that I made however a padded bar would work just as well. the padding was nothing more than dense foam window weather stripping (home peel and stick kind) the standoffs attach a snap on tee that I found at Lowes (don't know what it's really used for) the snap on tee is threaded at the joint the snap on tee makes stand off adjustable. I kept my ladder short to help keep it more rigid and probably stronger the total length is about 30 inches, i'm 6'0" and had no problem using it.
