The sincereness of their stated oversight will be judged by how they rectify this situation. If it was a honest mistake, an apology and the reissuance of the calendar containing equal credits would be in order. As a Corporate Security investigator for a large corporation in my former life, I interviewed many individuals accused of misconduct, violation of law and etc. One consistent theme from interviewees when confronted with their wrongdoings; "I forgot or I did not know." Hopefully, Brunswick/Boston Whaler will do the right thing.

Of course BAYLINER CENTRAL doesn't look nice! It's a brunswick company too.
Nevermind Joe, along with you we'll all...forget when the time comes.
Keep up the good work Joe.Grin
I just want to remind to all of you that like everyone else in this community i based on your opinions and help to rebuild my 1976 13 sport and my 1980 17 montauk...not on the anekdotal dealer of BW in Greece!
WE make the LEGEND, not Brunswick...they make pool tables...to play with their balls...Wink

Thanks for everyones support and viewpoints.

Here is a photo from their website that my original link in the first post points to.

The acknowledgment in the published copy of the calendar is the same as the photo leaving out WhalerCentral.com

Inexcusable.............

This contest was a screwed up mess all the way around. It was not a Whaler memory that they wanted, it was a photograph contest. I was honest in my memory and wanted a photo to support that. I should have just sent in a good photo of my old Revenge in the water with a good background and made up a memory to back up the photo. They were also sloppy on thier due dates and posting winner dates. John

Im not sure how that is ment , I think though It would be a mistake to take out your dissapointment and hurt on "all things New Boston Whaler" as you would be excluding post classics and there owners from an open dialogue on Boston whalers...

The slight to you and your site is understood and hopefully they will fix that in some way.

But are you suggesting that your site is now or will be dealing with only "Boston WHalers, Old", of the pre-brunswick era down the road??

I would main tain your high standards for your site regardless of this very hurtful snafu on Bruniswick watch.... I just cant see amajor operation like them doing this on purpose and antagonizing 7000 people and prospective buyers...

My Best to you, you have always been a class actSmile Henry AKA THE YIDDIL:

OK...

I received a phone call today from the Brunswick Saltwatergroup....

They apologized and said there was a big misunderstanding.

To make a long story short, they said from now on they would either include and acknowledge all the people that help them on a project or, they won't include anyone at all... This is fair for everyone involved...

They also said they will be putting WhalerCentral.com name along with the other site on a new poster coming out. This is also good.

They said they appreciate this site and all of you, the members.
To show their appreciation, they are offering all the members here a free poster when it is released. I will give you more details when I talk with them further.

So, I feel this matter has been settled and am relieved that they did not do anything to us intentionally. Thanks to everyone who sent an email or called them via phone and voiced their complaint...

Thanks to Boston Whaler and the Brunswick Saltwatergroup for taking care of this situation.
Things in the Boston Whaler world are good again.....

I am sorry I missed this thread.

My take on this is....typical! It is typical of marketing people to do stuff completely stupid. Some point to the website as an example, others point to the lack of engagement of owners (new and older years).
While you would think that whaler corporate would be pro-active in marketing, they are re-active.

I am sorry WhalerCentral.com was left out.

I am more sorry that Whaler continues to be unable to get their marketing heads out of their bilge thru hulls.

I disagree. Were all of these statements about corporate abuse merely rhetoric? I meant what I said. I still feel cheated by one of their "master dealers" or whatever it is they call them. (I am sure that) this Brunswick ownership of Boston Whaler is not what the founder of Boston Whaler intended it to be. Some affection and respect is owed to the guy that originally developed this boat but none is owed to this corporation that exists only to exploit the lovers of "the" boat. I can't be bought off with a chintzy poster. I don't want one. They can roll that poster up into a phallus symbol and sodomize themselves with it. (And I hope they get paper cuts).

Joe:

I meant what I said about you. I respect this site think it is a great site. If you do not respond to anything else I said please answer the question: why do you need any affiliation with the "Corporation" at all? Is it like most things now, just the money?

These are the things you said:

They apparently do not care about any of you, the 6500 members of WhalerCentral.com, they forgot us.
They apparently do not care about your opinion or whether you buy a new Boston Whaler or not, they forgot us...
I have a Sour, Sour taste in my mouth for "All New Things Boston Whaler" and I will not forget what they did to us until the day I die.

Did any of this mean anything? Did a glib apology and some posters they are going to have lying around anyway get rid of that "Sour, Sour taste" and make you forget something you said you would never forget?

You should not post stuff like this if you are going to capitulate so easily.

Henry,

This site has no need to affiliate with any company or entity.
We run and administer this site ourselves.
This site is run and maintained by the contributions of its members and the free help from all of the administrators.
Boston Whaler does not pay us for anything. They offered posters to everyone in good faith.
They certainly didn't need to do this nor did I ask them to do this.

Mistakes were made. It's part of life. Do I wish this never happened? Of course.
Will I always remember this... Of course...
I think I will always remember when I had my tonsils out too. That wasn't good.

Apologies were made and life goes on.
I believe in my original statement I said something like, "until this problem is resolved"...

Well they have given me an explanation and an apology... I think it is resolved.
I don't see any need to carry this any further.

I think the problem is deeper than just an unfortunate oversight (intentional or not) on the part of Boston Whaler. What the corporation has failed to understand is that they producing boats for a very select customer base. If you look at many BW owners, their boats almost become part of the family. We hear stories of many boats being past from father to son and countless hours spent on them.

Today, BW is own by a mega corporation. These corporations care about one thing - return on investment. Even the 50th anniversary calendar markets their new boats, more than show off the old and share the experiences that those boats made possible.

I am glad things are patched up, but I believe BW suffers from a much larger problem and this recent oversight reinforces my opinion. The company is doing what it does best - making money. When ROI falls below a predetermined amount, Brunswick sends help... and that help doesn't have time for you and me.

We say we have no affiliation with BW, yet, as members we are closely tied to their products. I think they should be nurturing this relationship because we are the ones who buy and promote their products.

Sending posters is fine. How about sending some sneak previews of boats in the works. How about some passes to some BW event or boat show. Or perhaps a discount on company products. How about sharing more information about their boats. There is so much the company can do… that they aren’t. I only wish the marketing group would wake up because I think they are the ones missing the boat.

My rant is now off. Thanks for reading. Bill

What I know about this incident:

Joe Kriz and Jim Hebert were asked to be judges of the contest and they represent WhalerCentral.com and continuouswave.com respectively.

We had correspondence with a representative of Boston Whaler’s contest concerning the contest and the lack of Boston Whaler boat owner participation and what could be done to increase participation.

In response to that correspondence we put an emphasis on the contest, what it entailed and encouraged WhalerCentral.com membership to enter the contest.

Boston Whaler published their calendar and their website with reference to only Jim Hebert and continuouswave.com.

How I feel about it:

I have no contention with Jim Hebert or continuouswave, both of which I find to be great contributors to the world of Whaler knowledge and as I’m sure he lent only the best of reference to the cause.

That Joe was included as a subject matter expert and asked to judge the contest was certainly based on his standing in the Whaler community and on his stewardship of WhalerCentral.

The fact that they corresponded with us as to how to beef up the participation in the contest shows that in addition to Joe’s personal involvement WhalerCentral contributed to the contest effort as well.

It is an affront to the folks who affiliate themselves with WhalerCentral but even more so is it an affront to Joe Kriz who has been a one man source of Whaler knowledge and passion and promotion unlike few others have been.

I find the personal slight to Joe (regardless of claims of it being an oversight) even more egregious. His steadfast support of Boston Whaler and it’s boats has been delivered a slap in the face.

As I conclude this, I see that the expression of gratitude on the Boston Whaler website has not been amended to include Joe. Joe and I have been running this site for some time now and I know it's not a difficult or time consuming task to change some text. It's more difficult to change a perspective. It would be nice to see it changed, but only if they appreciate Joe and the WhalerCentral community. If they don’t they should leave it as it is.

They should change the web page on Monday Morning.
Even if the calanders are not updated before they hit the streets.
FIX the problem Brunswick.
