Montauk Gas Tank - Is this New?

Looking around for a new single gas tank to replace the two red 12 gals I have now I have been reading about getting the Moeller 26 gal and having to raise the seat some for a good fit.
In browsing around though I found this: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/...assNum=257
Looks new and have not heard anyone mention it here, seems perfect since it is basically made for the Montauk.
Anyone have one of these?
Also has anyone put a sender unit on a on deck moeller fuel tank in order to have a gauge on the dash?

Yes, this is new, and it looks like a good tank for under the RPS, however, you should be able to find it for $200 or so, can't remember where, just google it.

The tank is listed on Moeller's site.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and compare the 24 to the 26 gallon.

Compared to the 26 gallon tank they offer, this 24 gallon tank is 1 1/2 inches longer but the same width and height..

Looking at the pictures I would think the extra 1.5" is related to the recessed fill cap and pickup area that also extends out slightly, which makes it easier to fill while under the seat.
Not sure otherwise where the extra 2 gallons disappeared to, maybe it is also thicker?
Really like that it is white vs red.

Moeller 26 gallon tank

The difference between the 2 tanks is the 24 gallon is 1 1/2 inches longer... and holds 2 gallons less.
The tank fill neck area also looks slightly different.

This is a new version of their tank. The neck is angled so refilling does not require manually moving the tank, a frequent comment/criticism of classic Montauk and 170 owners.
There has been discussions on adding a remote sender to Moeller brand above deck tanks. Here is one thread

Will this tank clear the opening into the tunnel that the fuel line runs in or will a new hole have to be cut for the fuel line?

My local West Marine was willing to price match the others at the 199.00 price.
I believe why it is rated at 2 gallons less is the fill neck is lower and angled as to in essence lower the over all height of the tank.
I am going to order one.
A new hole will be needed forward of the tank to install.

If price is your deciding factor then that tank looks pretty slick. The only issue I find with these tanks is you have to drill a new fuel line hole and have to strap it down or use their hold down kit. I had the 28 gal tempo tank that went bad and is no longer made. That tank allowed you to use the original fuel line hole. Since I did not like the fact of punching in a new hole plus new hold down holes I opted to go a different route altogether. I purchased a 28 gallon Mirax aluminum tank. They have a 24 that fits under the seat for $350 or $400. I had them make one to my specs that fit under the seat (mine is raised 1.5" . I can fill it from outside and the rear of the tank is flush with the rear of the RPS. This gained me 4" of deck space without the loss of fuel capacity. Brian @ Mirax built it the way I wanted with brackets on the side to mount to the floor, (brackets hidden behind the RPS legs) pick up in the rear center, mechanical fuel guage at the rear and fill in the port rear so I can access it without getting in the boat. Mirax did this without any extra fees. $400 for any configuration I wanted. I had it powdercoated to match the desert tan. It looks exceptional and should outlast any plastic tank. So if price is not your deciding factor I would give Brian @ Mirax a call and discuss your options. Good guy to deal with.

Does anyone know if the fuel line hole would have to be moved on a 08 montauk 170? It is located on the starboard side of the console from the factory.

If I still had my Montauk and needed a new tank, I'd get two 12 gallon aluminum tanks. I like the fact that it can be moved, and I also like the fact that if you have a problem you can just try the second tank and 12 gallons is easier to lift than 24.

Has anyone got a pic of one of these in a classic Montauk? My 25 year old Mirax tanks are weeping around the fittings on warm days. Too corroded to mess with. I am waiting on a quote from Mirax for a pair of new 12s, but I don't want to rule out this new option from Moeller.

I have never had to add length to a fuel line to install the tank in question on an 08 17 Montauk. You will however want to pull the excess that is below decks. And no, this doesn't kink, strain or otherwise damage the fuel line if as long as you don't get all midieval with it.

I had the 27 gal tank in my Montauk and it fit perfectly under my RPS. I experienced no problems refueling. Here are some pics:
