I find myself in need of a replacement HIN plate. Anyone know where I could get a little plate stamped out?

Maybe a local engraving shop? I need mine replaced too.

All you really need is a set of stamping dies the correct size.

HIN numbers are 12 characters in length...

BWCxxxxxxxxx

Some of the above characters were Silk Screened on but fade over the years.
Stamping all of the numbers and letters on a new plate should last virtually forever.

Yep, I can come up with some strap, I just do not have a set of stamps. I suppose if I cant find something I could check for a cheap set of letters somewhere.

Try a trophy shop.

Bingo, that's exactly what I did. Guy at the trophy shop made me 2 (figured an extra was good to have) and even drilled the 4 corner holes exactly where they needed to be to fit the old rivet holes in the hull.

Harbor Freight sells letter/number stamp sets that should hold up well enough stamping aluminum. Believe HINs must be 1/4" or larger.

I posed this same question to Mr. Bennett some time ago and he also said to try a trophy shop.

How much does a trophy shop charge?

A person can make one for about a $1 if they already have a stamp set. Or can borrow one from a friend of neighbor.

Not sure about the size but as mentioned above, 1/4 inch or larger.
Anyone really measure the height of their stamped numbers?
If I can get some time I will see what height they are.

Looks great Dave.
Thanks

I just went out and measured my original HIN Metal Tag for the record.

4 inches long by 1 inch high...

The HIN characters (12 letters and numbers) are 1/4 inch high...

The Boston Whaler Inc letters are 3/16 inches high...

Joe, does your HIN plate have square corners or do they have a radius?

Great question...

Just went out and looked.

They appear to have the exact same radius as the rivets.
The rivets follow the outside edge of the HIN plate.

Looks great Dave! Guess I'll do mine, now that I see what it looks like. I would think engraving a small piece like this would be better than stamping, as stamping would tend to disstort it. Thanks again.

Here is an HIN tag from a 1976 Montauk.
Note the slightly rounded corners to match the radius of the rivets.

Trophy shop tags always come out straight and look great, most trophy shops can also make up your missing or worn capacity plate, just download it and e-mail it to them, then pick it up.

I have been by a couple of trophy shops and found out that they all have laser engravers not the old fashioned stamp kind. If anyone goes in a shop that can do this and would please send me a e mail contact. for the shop.
