HIN numbers are 12 characters in length... BWCxxxxxxxxx Some of the above characters were Silk Screened on but fade over the years. Stamping all of the numbers and letters on a new plate should last virtually forever.

A person can make one for about a $1 if they already have a stamp set. Or can borrow one from a friend of neighbor. Not sure about the size but as mentioned above, 1/4 inch or larger. Anyone really measure the height of their stamped numbers? If I can get some time I will see what height they are.

Thanks I just went out and measured my original HIN Metal Tag for the record. 4 inches long by 1 inch high... The HIN characters (12 letters and numbers) are 1/4 inch high...
