Member Personal Page Posts: 408 Comments: 3 Joined: 06/07/07	Hi all, From time to time I have seen posts regarding Trolling motor brackets (Posts also from me...:-) Well I had a custom one made and it a really nice piece matching the style of Boston Whaler. This made by Ray Martin of Martin Marine design. It will be installed in the next few weeks. I will post pictures. Even the angles of the transom have been considered and I will not need shims. Will be mounted on the starboard side. I my opinion this is another fine product made by Ray. Member Personal Page Posts: 2012 Comments: 0 Joined: 12/19/05	That is sure a classy looking trolling motor bracket. Which Whaler will it go on and how big of a motor will be mounted on it? The holes for the mounting bolts look somewhat small though. Here is a homemade one I built for my 13 footer. I had to cut a mahogany shim plate to offset the curve of the transom. I ran a 3 hp Johnson on it for awhile, but now an electric trolling motor, that has more push than the Johnson. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c19...haler1.jpg Rich

Member Personal Page Posts: 408 Comments: 3 Joined: 06/07/07	Hi Rich, Yes I am very happy with the way this turned out. The bolts appear to be about 5/16 in thickness, plenty heavy for this. Ray says this can easily take a 9.9 and I believe it. I probably will look for a light 4 stroke with a shift on the tiller. Tohastu/Merc makes 8HP and 9.9. If I can find a 6HP I would be happy with that, lighter is better... For the time being I will use my electric (50 Lbs Minn Kota) Basically all that the electric is good for is maneuvering around dock and stumps. Cant really troll with it on my 17 unless there is absolutely no wind. This will be mounted on the starboard side of my 17 SSL.
