(had to remove dead links)

This Whaler is listed as a 1999 model, but no other info. It's a theft recovery and I could bid on it through a friend of mine who alerted me to it. (It's a dealer-only auction.)

Anyone care to opine what it's worth from the pictures? The current bid is about 1,300. It has a clean title. We will not be able to get there to view it before the auction closes on the 11th of Jan.

Any comments would be appreciated. Here are two more pics:

It looks like a 15 or 16' Dauntless to me. As for value I have no clue. I would search on that year Dauntless and see what they are selling for. Subtract for power and condition.

Here is where I put in a shameless plug for Tom's CD's. It is a Dauntless, not sure the length but other than being dragged thru a dust storm, it looks in good shape.

Dan -

Argh, I have Tom's CD's but can't get to them right now.

I would agree, a Dauntless 160. As to bid...IMO....max of $2500 given no engine, controls etc. Saw one ad on Craigslist for a 2001 160 w/90hp for 14k. (had to remove dead links)

Searching Boattrader showed several 1998-2002 ranging from 13-18k.

Good luck

You guys need to go back and study your CDs some more ;-)

That is a 14' Dauntless. I had the use of one of these for a couple weeks a few years ago. It is a nice little package and one I could *almost* love.

On the trailer it is worth $4000-$5000 in that condition.

Thank you for your replies... it looked bigger to me... I was hoping it was an 18 or so. I'll let y'all know if I "steal" it (I wouldn't buy it any other way!)

What size engine would be best for this model? Can any of you tell what else would be needed to get her ready for the water?

I'm no expert but I recently purchased my 2001 Dauntless 160 for $15,300 on eBay. By the way, the transaction went off perfectly and the boat was as advertised. No regrets. Here's the link:

nope. It mysteriously disappeared from the listings before the auction began. Don't know what happened. I doubt if we'd have got it. I would have only been willing to go about 1500 for it, though it was clearly worth more than that.

Anyone know what size motor this model shipped with?

Hersheybosco.... well, welcome to the Boston Whaler community and the WhalerCentral community! Congrats on your purchase! I noticed you broke down the reallylongurl to get to the ebay listing. I stitched it together and it still worked. BEAUTIFUL BOAT!

It's become available again.

I researched the boat some more (thanks Tom, for the definitive answer) and I guess a 60-75HP motor is right for it. From the pictures, would anyone hazard a guess how much it would take to put a new motor on it and replace what's missing? Looks like the steering wheel/steering controls, and the motor controls are all that's missing.

Dan the windshield needs to be replaced too. Also if you look there are some marks on the port side of the hull. Almost look like this boat could have been partially submerged or rolled over in water. Can you go see it in person?

scraab, thanks! Yeah, I wonder. I could go see it, but it's in California... a friend would pick it up for me if I bought it, but I don't think I will. A 14 would be nice, but I like to run offshore once in a while. Besides, I have a project.

Duf: Tom put together a CD of the Whaler catalogs. You can order one in the upper right box of this page ("visit our sponsors"Wink Congrats on your new purchase, old man!

Derwd: come on, man! You've almost caught up to me in the "top posters" category. You were just two steps behind. Now you're three.

Dan - Not usre if you are still interested, but the 1999 14' Dauntless had a recommended 30 -75 hp range. Specs can be found on whalers archive site - http://web.archive.org/web/19990922032228/www.whaler.com/Boats/dauntless14.html

Hey Dan,

Actually I was only one behind earlier in the week, thought you may be feeling the pressure... Just trying to motivate you to keep logging in and posting!
