Hello subject matter experts!

I bid at auction a 1988 17 BW, EZ load, and a 1988 Merc 90 (305 LBS) it has a frozen head. I pick it up this weekend. Can anyone please share your resent repower actual costs and who i can go to for estimates? Since i paid to much $3200 for a unseen BW, I was targeting $2800, I want to lower my repower cost options. Any boat show deals you think are good for end to end install? I am based in CHS SC, however, will tow to reasonable location for savings. Yep, I admit it, I don't know what I'm doing with old boats, just looking at it as a project boat to pull tubing, take a spin ect, if i get it up and running :) Not sure if the 1988 Merc 90 with a frozen head is worth anything, parts maybe or is it a throw away? So 70HP 3 cylinder vs 4 cylinder 90?

Thanks in advance!

Hopefully you will get some leads for your area. I'd suggest you add the 4-cylinder 70 HP Yamaha 4-stroke to your list as well. It is a nice lightweight engine (less than your current Merc) and a good option if you don't need absolute max power.

If you have a yard the whole thing and need all new rigging, gauges and controls for a 90 hp expect $9500 - 10,000

For a 70, subtract ~ $600

Jacos Marine, in TN sells the Mercury 90 hp FourStroke for ~ $7500. The 75 is $7120. Prices NOT including REBATE.

Quotes can vary ALOT due to grade of gauges, prop, controls, labor and sales tax.

Shop HARD.

Boy, if I was trying to repower a used Montauk 17 for a more economical price, this Tohatsu 90 would be a very attractive option. Even if I had to pay Twin Cities marine to crate and ship it, the total package price for boat and nearly new motor would be a bargain.

Wow, that's crazy money. I shopped years ago For a Yamaha 200 HPDI and paid $12.3K rigged.

Shop hard IS the best advice, unless funds are readily available.
