Advice on replacement trailer for 1989 Montauk?

Member Posts: 264 Comments: 0 Joined: 03/14/08	I have a Magic Tilt galvanized trailer. Model # BTV1517N. Single Axle with 13" tires. It is a 2002 bought new. The capacity is 2450 pounds, more than enough for the boat, motor and any equipment. The bunk carpet ripped and I replaced it with snaptraxx. This is a plastic that snaps over the wood bunks and lasts forever. No more ripped carpet. It is easy to launch and recover in high or low tide. The 8' bunks support the boat. No more keel rollers that can damage the keel. My last trailer had them and no more will I use that. I used POR 15 to paint the trailer and no rusting after that. I have a 79 Montauk with a 90 hp 4 stroke Yamaha. The trailer has plastic fenders that do not rust and the bunks let it sit low so the boat clears the garage door where it is kept.

The strongest part of the hull is the keel and as such the weight should rest on keel rollers. The bunks are just there to keep the boat level on the trailer. A properly set up bunk trailer with keel rollers should never damage your keel. I would definantly recommend using poly keel rollers as the rubber ones will ware out fast. I have had my 17 on a karavan bunk trailer with 4 poly keel rollers for 6 years and it works perfectly. Edited by luckydog on 06/28/09 - 5:59 PM

Model 5S172200V Two keel rollers and bunks. 13" tires. Galvanized. Jack. Spare. Good Value. I don't know if they have any distributors in other parts of the country and shipping would probably not be cheap but definately worth looking at. I have had my last 3 boats on them custom built and my current one has made the annual Baja trip the last 10 years and still looks new. I just put the Montauk on it 3 years ago. All is good. They are located in Chino CA
