Anybody know where or from whom I can get one?
I've seen the specs to make one, but that's out of my league.

Can anyone help bfree????
The drawing for the kicker bracket is located in the download section:
http://www.whalercentral.com/download...owstart=15
The drawing does NOT show the angle of the aluminum brackets nor the length of the brackets from the transom to the mounting bad....
Can anyone give us these dimensions?????
If we know those dimensions, we may be able to get someone to make one....

Just a note:
I tried to put a 3 h.p. "kicker" on my 15' sport when I first got it (a friend had one for me), unfortunately it did'nt fit well, it was also making the boat a bit off balance as well, it really took up just a bit too much room. I tried contacting several BW dealers (no "w/c" 17 years ago), and the closest I could get was a picture of an electric trolling motor on the front of a 15' sport that a customer had, he used it in a fresh water lake, I'm in salt water so I gave up on the idea. The transome is at a slight angle as well, so getting a "Square" fit was not obtainable, so I just signed up for "Sea Tow" instead.

For what its worth Joe, I own a machine shop - if someone needs one made up I would be glad to have a look at it. Based on the download link provided there would have to be some guessing unless someone on here has one and can provide some dimensions.
I did remember a reference page on this - sorry for the link to another site but this does seem to answer the mail. Feel free to remove the link Joe if you find it inappropriate.

Scott,
The aluminum bracket posted on CW looks perfect. How difficult would it be to do them? I'll bet there is a market (somewhat limited) if you wanted to make several of them.
What would you need to charge to make it worth your while?

Scott,
That drawing looks good.
I would suggest if anyone makes this bracket up to look at using this pad from Garelick...
http://www.garelick.com/product.php?p...mber=99057
Or something similar. Wood on the bracket is too much of a pain to try and take care of....

Bfree... I can look into it if you want - We primarily do aircraft work here so I would just do this in free time. The issue that concerns me is the statement I read on the site...
"You can reproduce the two drawings seen above for your own personal, non-commercial use."
I don't want to violate anyones privacy or policy - just want to help out fellow Whaler lovers.
I guess if it was just me doing it for you that would be ok? I really don't know. What do you think Joe?

Scott,
I think the key to the statement is "You can reproduce the two drawings"....
Don't reproduce the drawings.... They don't mention anything about reproducing the part(s)..
So, just make the part(s)....
and, you are not doing this commercially so to speak... Just making one for a fellow Whaler owner... and yes, you have to make it worth your time and materials....
I think the bottom line is you would not be mass producing these and selling them on the open market for profit...

Thanks for your input Joe.
I will have a look at the drawings get together what I think it would cost to make one.

Ok - I have one more idea which may even be easier - After looking more at the Whaler drawing - and the drawing of the welded bracket I realized that we can probably do this by using aluminum channel - We would just have to cut at a 45 degree angle. Make it 8 inches wide - 2 pieces - Seems pretty simple - Go to Mcmaster Carr and look at item # 9001K88 - Then look at the Whaler drawing again and see if you can see what I see. Im sure I could get a better price than Mcmaster through one of my local metal guys -
Let me know what you think.

Scott,
Whatever you come up with would be your own idea and adaptation.... Then you can do anything with the product....
I like the idea of the Garelick mounting pad... Already made up and should last forever...
Don't know the price though.... but that could be up to the owner to put that on. Just need the mounting holes in the bracket for it....

Im just looking for the best alternative for bfree. A lot of places would be happy to saw cut the material and sand the ends - I in good conscience can not do that - I would mill them to size. Just my nature.
So bfree - which way would you like to go? The aluminum angle method will be much cheaper and look more like the whaler drawing - The welded aluminum assy will be more expensive but in my opinion would be more trick looking.
Let me know - I will do my best to help you.

Thank you guys for the thoughts.
I have no concern at all for the looks. The boat gets used pretty hard in the ocean, so anything too pretty would look out of place anyway. It just needs to let the little motor keep us from ending up at Catalina Island in case the big one quits while I'm hoopnetting in the middle of the night.
The Garelick link http://www.garelick.com/product.php?p...mber=71045 shows a brackett material that might work without machining or welding. Is that the kind of stuff that is available in bulk, Scott? Hacksaw and grinder is within my limited skill set.
What do you think?

The issue I see with that Garelick bracket is it lacks the offset to the side - The Whaler bracket needs to be offset to get away from the primary motor and still mount on the proper area of the transom.
I would think the best course of action would be to purchase the aluminum channel and cut it as I described - I can make up some quick autocad drawings showing how to do this. I dont know where you are located but there may be some local metal yards you can go to that you can by cutoffs of this material.
If you want I can price it locally and cut if for you. It shouldn't be all that expensive. You would then just have to make the wood block and the add the garlelick pad Joe is talking about. He has a link to it above.
You can PM me or email me if you want.

How bout this off the shelf product?

Its made for spare tires on a trailer by Fulton Marine - It looks like it would do the trick - and its $25. Definitely worth a shot.
