So last winter into the beginning of August, with the help of this site, I refurbished my 1970 Sport http://whalercentral.com/forum/viewth...ost_101043
and it came out pretty well. Pics are on my personal page and here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/q01bnyvbph...QefgI8ngJV

I redid all the wood interior parts with epoxy and varnish, replaced part of the rub rail and faired/painter the interior with Tuff Coat. I finished the work around the first week of August and had two weekends as test runs before towing it out behind my boat on our long trip to Nantucket from Lindenhurst, NY.

This is where things went a little awry...apparently (actually obviously) my second gas can (6 gal full) broke loose and went through the boat like a bowling ball through a china shop and took out the console leg before bouncing out of the boat...taking the railing on one side with it. Once the console was shattered the teleflex steering mechanism took its turn bouncing along the bottom interior punching a bunch of holes as it went.

So I get to my first destination and pull in the boat to disconnect her and let my son dock it while I slip into my slip only to discover the above and she won't start! It turns out the kill switch also decided to fail during this trip. Not having much of a choice we release the boat right outside the marina (leaving my 17yo to paddle her in to the dinghy dock - he got a tow in) and I dock the big boat.

So a few oz of marine tex and a tube of 5200 later I got her together and I bypassed the kill switch so that I could justify towing the whaler along for the rest of the vacation. In the end all was not lost because we did end up using her for a few hours of tubing and lots of tender rides while moored out. And I get to do it over again this winter...but better.

Now I just need to find a new railing and leg for a console.
