Boston Whaler - New wood
I pick up 3 sheets of 4x8 3/8 marine plywood from a local shop. It takes 2.5 sheets to do a 18 ft outrage deck cover. I debated for a long time about going to King Starboard but in the end wood seemed like a better idea. The issue I had was with screw holes, if you stripped one out in starboard you were in a heap of trouble, hard to repair and most glues and resin just won't stick to it. Where as wood can be filled with resin and reused. Rot is the problem with wood but after thinking about it my boat is 25 years old and If I have to replace the wood again in 25 years I will be 66 year old and should have the time to do it for the next 25 years! As you can see on the back side of the deck I sanded with a palm sander with some 80 grit to get the wood residue off and to rough up the surface for the resin to stick to.
