I just got my e-tec back from it's 3 year service. My dealers one comment was go faster. I said, well i'm out trolling most of the day, he's like "I know, I checked and most of the time your about 1000 RPM's or under. When your done trolling, run her above 4000 RPM's for at least 30 minutes.
So piece of advice for all the e-tec owners, run them hard.

That is amazing...........I just got mine back last month from the 3 year Service (Which amounted to just a routine checkup) found no problems at all, but suggested that I run it at a higher rpm for longer periods of time occasionally.

Tom,
My dealer showed me the plugs which were pretty fouled up from not running her at a high enough RPM. Other than that comment, and the fact he removed the begining's of a paper wasp nest from under the engine cowling he said all looked good.

Kamie,
Same advice was given to me about the Verados (helps clean out carbon build up)

I have also been told to run the engine faster.
Now if I could just stop the scope creap of my "overhaul" and launch the darn boat.

I feel your pain Phil, I have more boats and projects than time.

When done putting arround what I do is run hard, WOT, back to the ramp when done for the day. Helps to clear out the engine,

i do that as well, but it doesn't seem long enough. He said 30 minutes or more and i'm 10 minutes from fishing so looks like i either need to run up and down the river or go farther away from home to fish.

On my Etec engine report, a total of 7 minutes out of 60 engine hours so far are at WOT. Over 60% of the time is spent below 1500 RPM and the bulk of the rest is between 3000-3500 from water sports.
I thought the plugs looked pretty fowled after the first season but the dealer said they looked "normal" for an Etec. I pull and clean them regardless at the start of every season. Seems like I may need to go faster as well...
