Attention All
I have an evinrude 70hp 4 stroke engine low emission model. The problem that I have is that there is a plate on the starboard side of the boat that gives the following information
OMC Emission Information
Engine Family : 11PXM0079220
Spark Plug : BPR6ES
Emission Control : ECM, EFI
Oil : 10W40
Gap : 0.029
NB : It also has a note stating that itt conforms to MY 2001 US EPA and California emission regulations.
Now I need a model number for this engine since I have been searching the internet and it seems that I cannot find the infomation. All I know is that Evinrude made this engine between 1998 and 2001 before it went to the 2 stroke DFI. Can enyone help me on this forum. Want to put this engine on a 17ft Boston Whaler Montauk.
By the way what parts are needed to start the engine since the engine was stored for a little over a year without starting but it was flushed with fresh water and put down. Would there be ant problems with this model engine that I need to know about.
thanks in advance for your help.
Dave

Look on the engine bracket for a serial number and/or model number.
This should be a metal tag riveted to the bracket or a sticker.
Should start with E70L??? or something similar

Your plate or sticker must be missing.
Like I mentioned above, the model number is something like this.
E70L???????
E = Evinrude
70 = HP
L = Long Shaft
etc.....
The etc. gives you other numbers and letters that would also tell us what year it was instead of guessing or going by the registration which is not always correct.
I believe this motor was actually made by Suzuki for OMC but not positive for those years.
Look at BRP's Online Parts Catalog and see if you can find any other info.

In 2000 & 2001 Evinrude 70hp 4 stroke engine were made by Suzuki like the one I have. the deference was the prop spline and the fuel fitting at the engine and the color of paint and the decal. I looked at that time when I re-powered I wanted a black engine over the blue Evinrude. check all the oil levels fresh gas fully charged battery, and start it you can change the water pump and fuel filter / oil filter with oil change. A hours gauge would be nice to have. I would start it first, then do the service. make sure the water pump is working. I have a manual for my Suzuki and can copy some pages if you need to see some thing.

Look on the engine block itself, there maybe some numbers there. Check the freeze plugs, Call a dealer and ask where the numbers would be.

You model number should be E70PL4SIA if it's a 2001.
They were sold as a 4 stroke option until OMC closed its doors in Dec. of 2000.

Copy and paste the link above. Bombardier maintains a complete listing of OMC parts diagrams, model #'s, etc. this should help you.

I check those sources and it seems that it could be a 2000 or 2001 4 stroke since OMC only made those in the period 1999 until 2001. From my research online I realised that Suzuki made them for OMC and that this particular engine series is sold in Aus and New Zealand.
What is the service on thes engines like. Cause I was think of changing the gearcase oil, the engine oil and the spark plugs on the engine and also the water impeller. What is your thoughs on the service that I am going to conduct on this engine. Any other part that I should know about ?

Is it fuel injected? If it is most likely a Suzuki The oil filter will lift out the top no need to remove all the cowling. I water pump is like any other out- board, along with the lower end oil. Plugs straight forward.

Well I am kind of new to boating. The Boston Whaler Montauk 17 is a new purchase, brought it from a guy who no longer had a need for it and the 70HP 4 stroke evinrude is coming ooff a Hurricane Zodia that the company that I worked for owned. Also the tilt and trim on the evinrude doesn't work at all. What could be the problem. The plus and oil change seem okay but the water pump impeller looks a little more complicated. Are there eny instruction that I can find online or pages that I can get on how to change this water pump using the kit. ? Thanks a lot this forum has been really helpful and I appreciate you guys trying to help a newbie like me to baoting .

This is the clearest and most comprehensive video I've ever seen on changing out a water pump:

As far as the trim goes, if nothing works (up or down), I'd start by seeing if the switch is getting power, then make sure the switch works, and after that look at the relays, then the trim motor itself.
